What Are You Calibrated to?

I just had an "aha" moment.  I have mentioned before that I used to feel like I was on a roller coaster ride of emotions everyday, typically not good feeling emotions.  It would start immediately upon waking up and not let up until I went to sleep at night.  It didn't matter if I was interacting with employees, clients, or in my personal life.  I was emotionally activated all day, every day.  My days felt like one stress response after another and now I'm able to connect the dots as to why.

When I am in session with clients we often talk about, of all things, the nervous system.  We talk about this because I have come to understand that our nervous system is calibrated at a young age to the people and the environment around us.  For example, if you grew up in a home where there was  abuse of any kind (verbal, substance, physical, sexual) and because of that a volatile atmosphere, you may learn to people please, be very quiet to stay under the radar, or even rebel.  Regardless of your response to it, your nervous system and you recognize that this is not a safe environment and it employed the fight, flight, or freeze response, also referred to as the stress response.  If you are calibrated to this environment it is likely that you would feel that life is unsafe and make decisions based on that understanding.  All the while, your nervous system whenever it feels threatened is firing off chemistry to figure out a way to feel safe or get into homeostasis (all systems normal), while simultaneously it is calibrated to unsafe and thus unsafe feels "comfortable" or

the norm.  Thus, you are calibrated to deploy the stress response at nearly every situation that does not go as planned (which is likely most everything) and people who behave in ways that resemble the environment we grew up in.  The continued activation of the stress response wreaks havoc on your other body systems, like digestion, and the continued activation of stress over a long period of time leads to things like heart attacks and disease, or as I like to think of it "dis-ease".

This is where the "aha" moment came in.  In the past, I chose to make a chaotic life because that is what my nervous system was calibrated to.  The roller coaster ride of emotions was the familiar and that is why it was so challenging to see it and do something about it.  It was because I didn't know any different.  And, it took several crises (read my story here: https://www.erin-mac.com/erin-s-bio), that were painful enough, to motivate me to make change, to seek a better way.

We each have a story of all the things that happened to us that were unpleasant, unfair, or down right confusing.  This is all on purpose, for the purpose of our evolutionary growth and healing.  Which, by the way, is why we are here.  So, as much as we would have liked for things to be different, they couldn't be because I believe they are unique to you and what you are here to heal and grow from.  How do you know they are for you to heal and grow from?  You know because they are in your life.  They are gifts, albeit unpleasant ones at times, and for our benefit.

I am so overwhelmingly honored to be on a journey to helping people discover what their unique healing and growth journey is and help them recalibrate their nervous system to calm, peace of mind, meaning, and joy.  How about you?  Are you ready to feel good in your body, mind, and soul?  Are you ready to enjoy your life every day, not wait for vacation or the weekend?  Take that next step and book a discovery call here https://www.erin-mac.com/bookings-checkout/one-to-one-guidance/book I promise no salesy talk, just a friendly chat to connect and see if you are ready for your journey.  How do you know if you are ready to dive in?  Well, if your life has become predictable, little things or everything agitates you, and most importantly you aren't enjoying your day-to-day, then it is time.  I'm so excited to hear from you and I can hardly wait to get started!  I'm in your corner.Peace, Erin "calibrated to calm" Mac
